The Other Me

Everyone who knows me would say the same, that I am a girly girl. That means that I choose feminine clothes and wear pink and red as much as any other color. In fact, if presented with the choice, I usually choose pinkish hues, as they compliment my fair skin and blonde hair.

I understand that most of us who are approaching our third decade on this Earth, and especially those who are older than that, have been raised as boys or girls, and little attention was given to gender specific or unspecific upbringing. That's why I choose pink and my brother chooses blue, without giving it a second thought.

But, in these more enlightened times, where gender roles are continuously challenged,  I enjoy dressing like 'the other me'. I put my high heels in the closet, hang the form fitting dress with frills on the hanger, and put on a strictly cut tweed pant, with a crisp white shirt.  And I adorn my feet with my favorite classic oxfords, Kickers Roxanne, in Dark Beige to make my point. I am as soft or as tough as I want to be, and I am a girl and I am a person. The 'other me' loves the cushion-like feel of the oxfords, and I feel strangely free.
